It's 2021 and I'm writing again!

2020 for me and for everyone else was a tornado of uncertainty and one of the ways I learned to cope was by getting up the courage to write again- this time contemporary fiction. You may be wondering how on earth did I manage to complete a 94,000 manuscript last year in the mist of a pandemic! Well, read below and I will share with you 3 tips on how to stay focused and just WRITE!

Tip 1- Get organized and committed!

I get so many questions, oh the questions on how did I find the time to write. Listen, we can all give ourselves excuses as to why we cant do something, but news flash if you want it bad enough you will find the time, point blank period. So, here is what you do, carve out a set amount of time, daily or weekly to just simply write. It can be 30 min or more, put your writing time in your calendar like a date and commit to it. Before you know it, you will be looking back at a whole manuscript that you wrote! Writing is not an instant process, it takes months and years to get a book ready to publish. Be gentle with yourself and begin by committing to the process, you are in it for the long haul!

Tip 2- Commit to a daily/weekly word count

Dedicate your time to a word count, commit to hitting that word count and watch your pages grow. Just start small, maybe 200 words a day, or for the week and then increase as you go.

Tip 3-Do not edit for grammar/spelling as you write, let the creative process flow!

If you are are about this life as a writer that means you have creativity in your bones and you are an artist, just like an artist that paints or an artist that sings. Your gift just happens to be with words and you love the creative process of watching your words come to life. So my creative writing crew, just write. Stop over thinking your story or editing the first page to death that you give up and vow to never write again. Be gentle with yourself and your journey, forget the obsessive editing for now, and just let your creative juices flow! Just have fun with the process, lets worry about editing later!
